Biomass & waste combined heat and power plants

HoSt Group supplies biomass-fired combined heat and power (CHP) plants and waste-fired combined heat and power plants to produce renewable electricity and heat. Our CHP plants range from 1 MWe up to 10 MWe, and from 8MWth. The ideal industrial biomass power plant and waste to energy solution. Above 25MWth boiler size, the heat and power plants are built in two boiler lines in combination with one larger efficient steam turbine. HoSt’s CHP plants are highly standardized and available in three variants: for 1) woody biomass, 2) RDF/SRF/other waste and for 3) agricultural residues.

From biomass and (wood) waste to heat and power

Biomass power plants, biomass cogeneration plants, and waste cogeneration plants convert biomass, such as wood, wood waste, straw, husk chaff, RDF, SRF, or other organic residues that are available in large quantities, in heat and electricity. Using biomass and waste as a fuel is more environmentally friendly and significantly cheaper than natural gas and diesel.

The boiler design of HoSt Group is unique and innovative, and based on a boiler installed directly next to the furnace resulting in a lower building, lower costs, and lower fundamental loads. Both structures are self-supporting and therefore the total fundamental loads are lower than in traditional boilers. In most traditional biomass/waste fired boilers, the boiler is installed on top of the furnace leading to high fundamental loads and a high building. Both the higher fundamental loads as the high building will lead to higher costs for civil works (for example building). Although the amount of equipment is similar to the traditional boilers less stairs, railings, and platforms are required for full accessibility. Time and costs for service and maintenance will be lower due to easy accessibility.

HIGH ELECTRICAL EFFICIENCY

High electrical efficiency obtained by a high pressure water tube steam boiler in combination with an efficient multi stage steam turbine.

HIGHER NET ELECTRICITY

20% to 30% higher net electricity yield than a comparable installation based on an ORC (Organic Rankine Cycle). Achieved by a low own electricity consumption and a high boiler efficiency.

HIGH AVAILABILITY

High availability of the installations in excess of 8200 running hours a year, equivalent to an availability of 94%.

EXTRA HIGH EFFICIENCY IN SUMMER

Extra high electrical efficiency during the summer due to a lower temperature of the heating water, allowing the steam in the turbine to expand further and therefore generate more electricity.

FUEL FLEXIBILITY

Fuel flexibility: from sawdust to wood particles up to 25 cm, from moisture contents of 10% to 60%, even suitable for fuels with a low ash melting point.

COMPETITIVE PRICE

High availability and at the same time very price competitive.

Renewable heat and power from biomass or waste

The HoSt combustion technology applied in our heat and power plants is highly flexible in applicable fuels: such as moisture contents ranging from 10% to 55% and fuels with low ash melting points like straw, chaff, manure, olive pulp, chicken manure and RDF (Refused Derived Fuel). HoSt applies flue gas cleaning technology to minimize NOx, sulphur, chlorine, dust, and other pollutants to meet required emission standards and to produce and deliver renewable heat and steam from biomass and waste in the cleanest way. The ideal solution for your industrial processes.
