Study association Alembic takes a look ‘behind the scenes’ of HoSt

HoSt organized on Wednesday 27 March an excursion for students of the Alembic study association. About 16 University of Twente bachelor’s and master’s students traveled from Enschede to the biogas plant Wabico in Waalwijk and the wood-fired heating plant in Eindhoven.

Students of both the studies Chemical Science Engineering and Chemical Engineering had signed up for a fun and educational glimpse of HoSt. The trip began at the ‘Mirror’ building where the eager students were waiting. Biogas plant Wabico in Waalwijk, one of world’s most advanced biogas plants, was the first stop. After an extensive tour at Wabico and a filling nice lunch, the student and HoSt colleagues continued the tour to the wood-fired bioenergy plant in Meerhoven, Eindhoven.

President Emilie Dubbelman, secretary Job de Swart and Maarten Jager, external relations commissioner of Alembic, also joined the excursion. We asked the three board members three questions about the excursion.

What was your experience of the excursion?

Emilie: “I thought it was great that we were picked up at the University and also really liked it that a few colleagues from HoSt joined the excursion. This way, many different positions and sides of HoSt were highlighted”.

Maarten: “I think it is important that green companies are also included when I organize excursion for Alembic. I enjoyed the fact that we visited two installations on one day and that both installations produce renewable energy in a different way. I had never seen a anaerobic digestion installation before”.

Job: “It was a very nice and educational day. I also liked that many HoSt colleagues came along. This gave us a good impression of the company and this industry”.

Would you recommend this excursion to fellow students?

Emilie: “I certainly think so and I also think that the excursion gives a good idea of what you can do after your study and how the study applies to a company such as HoSt”.

Maarten: “I would also definitely recommend going on an excursion like this one if you have the chance.t”.

Job: “What Maarten says”.

Do you see yourself work at HoSt or a similar company?

Emilie: “Yes, I think I would definitely like it here for a certain period of time”.

Job: “I believe bioenergy is very interesting, so you who knows one day”.

Maarten: “I also find bioenergy very interesting, but I follow the ‘material science’ track and my interest lays more in material science, such as nanotechnology”.
