HoSt wins ‘Best Ammonia Emissions Management Project’ ADBA award

HoSt wins the ‘Best Methane or Ammonia Emissions Management Project’ award from The Anaerobic Digestion and Bioresources Association (ADBA)!

The award in this category is given to the project “judged to be most likely to help the industry to address methane or ammonia emissions from AD plants and digestate storage/spreading”. HoSt won with the Wabico project in Waalwijk, the Netherlands where HoSt has implemented an installation to recover minerals from manure.

Recovering Minerals From Manure And Reduction Of Ammonia Emissions

At Wabico in the Netherlands, one of Europe’s most advanced biogas production facilities, HoSt has implemented an installation to recover minerals from manure. This is done by using the so-called ammonia stripper which uses the technique of air stripping the ammonia from the digestate, after which the ammonia has to be recovered from the gas stream and subsequently can be re-used. A benefit of this installation is the re-use of ammonia in the industry, for the production of artificial fertilizer for example, but another major benefit is the reduction of ammonia emissions, which helps to mitigate climate change and to improve atmospheric air quality.

Collaboration with Saxion University – 1.5 million subsidy

Special about the project is that HoSt is working together with Saxion, the University of Applied Sciences in Enschede, within this project that is called ‘Recovery of Minerals from Manure’. The project received €1.5 million subsidy from the Netherlands Enterprise Agency, an agency that promotes sustainable, agricultural, innovative and international entrepreneurship. The ammonia stripper installation at Wabico is a result of this subsidy.
