HoSt to Construct Turnkey Biogas Plant at Stanton Recycling in Ilkeston, UK

HoSt secures its key position as global supplier of bioenergy systems with a contract to construct the turnkey anaerobic digestion (AD) plant at the Stanton Recycling site in Ilkeston, UK. By treating mainly green waste and liquid food waste for Stanton Energy at the recycling facility, the biogas plant will annually produce more than 3,5 million Nm3 biomethane for gas grid injection and distribution.

Waste utilization & recycling

Waste generation is increasing extensively worldwide, and millions of tonnes of waste is generated in the UK each year.  HoSt is proud to work together with Stanton Recycling and we look forward to supplying our technology to tackle waste management challenges and contribute to achieving national energy transition goals. This biogas project at a recycling facility is in line with the future UK government’s strategy of the Green Gas Levy which aims to increase biomethane ‘green gas’ production and injection into the gas grid.

Biowaste to bioenergy

The biogas facility, equipped with digestate separation and pasteurisation technology, will process up to 40,000 tonnes of mainly liquid food waste and green waste by means of anaerobic digestion and membrane biogas upgrading technology. The annual biomethane production of 3.5 million Nm3 is sufficient to provide over 2,300 families with this renewable alternative of fossil natural gas. Distribution is arranged through Cadent’s gas grid, UK’s largest gas distribution network. Stanton Recycling Limited provides in recycling and waste disposal solutions across Nottingham and Derbyshire.

“This is an important development for Stanton Recycling to address two key future-proofing agenda items, and we are extremely pleased to realise our first project together with HoSt. Starting in October this year, we will process up to 40,000 tons of green waste, food waste, grease, grass, pruning waste and maize silage. Biomethane will be of importance to help decarbonise the UK. Based on our experience in Stanton we are keen to realize further projects together with HoSt in 2021 and 2022”, says Thomas Brückner, project developer of Stanton Energy.
