In Rēzekne, Latvia HoSt has built a wood-fired CHP plant. The plant supplies approx. 3 MWe of electricity to the net and approx. 11 MWth of heat to a wood drying system of a wood pellet production plant, through a hot water circuit. Wood waste of the pellet production plant is used as fuel for the CHP.

The construction of the turn-key installation was completed within the agreed schedule. The plant meets all the agreed performances and requirements.

PROJECT MILESTONES

Start project August 2014
Start-up / first fire August 2015

SPECIFICATIONS

Wood storage 250 m³
Wood supply system Chain scraper
Flow temperature 15 °C
Furnace 16.5 MWth – 7,3 t/h at 45% H2O
Water tube boiler 14,4 MWth
Steam turbine 3,1 MWe at 80 °C
Steam condensor 10,7 MW at 80 °C
Efficiency >88%

CHARACTERISTICS

  • The water tube boiler has a very high availability
  • The fouling of the boiler and furnace is minimized due to low speeds and a low temperature on the grate
  • High efficiency is achieved through a combination of low flue gas outlet temperature, a low oxygen content in the flue gas, and an efficient steam turbine
