In Radzików in central Poland, a straw-fired water boiler of 2.5 MWt has been realised in 2009. About 5,000 MWh is produced annually from 1,600 tonnes straw to provide district heating to surrounding offices and appartment building.

The straw is cropped and harvested by the local end user, stimulating the local labour environment and local tax incomes, and collected and stored before winter makes its entrance. This way, sufficient straw is in stock during winter before the next new harvest. A well-planned maintenance program avoids unnecessary down time or costly repairs. The project is equipped with a sophisticated control system.
