In Poddebice, in central Poland, one straw briquettes-fired boiler of 1.5 MWt and two straw briquettes-fired boiler of 0.5 MWt have been realised in 2008.
This project is part of an extensive heat system which frames geothermal and solar thermal solutions. Heat is produced from straw briquettes to provide district heating to the city district heating network. The straw briquettes are produced by the end user using local crops, stimulating the local labour environment and local tax incomes, and are formed under high pressure. This is also called ‘briquetting’. The project is equipped with a very sophisticated control system. A well-planned maintenance program prevents unnecessary down time or costly repairs.
