This plant in Merkem (Belgium), which is operated by Eneco, is optimized by HoSt. The plant was originally built by a German supplier and only suitable for the digestion of corn. By adapting the system, the installation has been made suitable for the digestion of various waste streams. The installation is extended with a mixing/dosing bin, a cat. 3 sanitation unit, which makes it possible to digest animal waste streams, and receipt silos for liquid products.
The biogas production is optimized due to changes in the digestion process. The installation is modified from a one-stage to a two-stage digestion installation, making use of the existing tanks. The total return is increased by 15%.
