HoSt exports third biomass gasifier to Portugal

HoSt is a suplier of biomass energy installation and market leader in the Netherlands for realisation of bio-energy installations. At this moment HoSt is constructing a sustainable energy installation, a fluidised bed gasifier, at the firm Niemeijer in Oldenzaal, the Netherlands. The installation, which will transform biomass (chickenmanure) into heat and electricity, will be exorted to the client in Portugal.

Fluidised Bed Gasification

HoSt developed a comercial thechnology for the processing of biomass using fluidised bed gasification for a scale up to 15 MWth. The technology has been developed in collaboration with the Dutch Energy Research Centre (ECN). Throught the years HoSt optimised the technology to the standard of a comercialy viable concept. HoSt already realised two installations, one in the north of the Neterlands and one in Romania.

The Technology

With fluidised bed gasification the fuel is thermally processed using a low oxygen suply. The Lowcaloric gas, produced in this process, is cleaned before burning it at a high tempreature. This processing method is very suited for difficult fuels, amongst whicht many biomass fuels.  The emissions from the installation are lower then with thermal techniques. This installation is designed to produce heat and electricity from 1 ton/h of chickenmanure. The installation will be constructed in the Netherlands. After construction the entire installation will be transported to Portugal, due to the size of the installation (11m x 4.5m x 3.5m) this will be done with  special transport.

HoSt

HoSt, situated in Hengelo Overijsel The Netherlands, is specialised in technologies for the sustainable biomass energy market. HoSt is leader on the Dutch market for supply of bio Energy installations, i.e. Biogas installations, fluidised bed gasifiers, wood fired boilers and wood fired combined heat and power units.

The current focus of HoSt is the the turn-key delivery of biomass energy installations. Within the Netherlands HoSt has a market share of aproximately 60%. Furthermore HoSt still conduct feasability studies, engineering and permit aplications for a wide selection of clients, mostly in the energy instensive industry. HoSt is specialised in developement of installations fitted to the specificed needs of its clients.

HoSt expects to produce approximately 5 fluidised bed gasifiers per year. This will be realised by further standardisation of the concept and steady contract with supliers.

Client

The client, situated in Portugal, is the maintenance and inovation branch of a major company in Portugal and Spain, including several facets of the food industry. Amongst which the raising of chicks, the porduction of eggs and the production of foor for laying chickens. To the supply the installation HoSt has been chosen after years of marketstudies to determine the best way to process the biomass in a sustainable way.

In Portugal and Spain there are many sites where chicken manure is present. By using this as fuel a sustainable solution is found to produce energy. Furthermore the clients takes it first steps on the growing market of sustainable energy.
